Star Trek

I thought Star Trek was a really enjoyable movie. I liked the humor, the action, the awesome sets, and the cast. I thought the technology displayed throughout the movie was really cool, and was depicted well. Almost everything in these massive spaceships had facial and voice recognition to allow crew members into specific areas throughout the ship. The most interesting form of technology was the "beaming" form of teleportation that was used throughout the movie. The characters would stand on top of a portal and "energize" themselves to another location outside of the ship. When Spock beams to the Vulcan planet to save his planet, beaming was the only way he could have gotten to his family in time before their planet was sucked into black hole. Without the beaming technology, Spock would have lost his entire family. Also when James Kirk and Sulu have to deactivate the device that was drilling a hole into the core of the Vulcan planet, they would have fallen to their deaths without beaming. As they fell from the contraption to the ground, Chekov had to locate them and lock their locations in in order to transport them back to the ship successfully. Right before they were about to hit the ground, they were teleported back inside the ship. Beaming technology saved many lives throughout the movie, and was a necessary tool in the ship to keep crew members safe and to teleport crew members to areas where they were needed in shorter periods of time.
I was also interested in the relationship between Spock and Uhura. It is revealed to the audience that Uhura was a top student in Spock's classes at the Starfleet Academy, then the next time we see an interaction between them is after Spock witnesses his mother's death. Uhura comforts him in the elevator and kisses him. I felt like this came out of nowhere and we weren't given enough background information on their relationship. We see them instantly go from a teacher and a student relationship, to a romantic relationship without any context. Where they romantically involved during the time she was his student? Did the thought of potentially losing him while he was saving his family make her realize her feelings towards him? I like the two of them together and I want to know more about their relationship and how they began their relationship.
Furthermore, I loved watching the entire story of how James Kirk followed in his father's footsteps and became the captain of the Starship Enterprise. Not only do I love Chris Pine, but I think he did an amazing job playing this character and how he transforms from a relaxed, irresponsible young adult to a fearless leader throughout the film. I really liked how meeting future Spock enlightened him on their impending friendship, which made him trust Spock more. Meeting future Spock was a turning point for Kirk. He realized that Earth was going to be destroyed just like the Vulcan planet if he didn't get his act together and lead the ship. Kirk meeting future Spock reminded me of when Neo met with the Oracle to hear about his destiny. Future Spock gave Kirk the confidence and reassurance he needed to know that he was capable of being captain. Although the Oracle did not telling Neo the truth about being the one, he was told what he needed to hear in that moment. In the moment, Kirk needed to hear that he was fully capable of being a leader in defeating the Romulans.
I am definitely interested in watching more movies and series that exist in the Star Trek universe and seeing what unfold. I think the history surrounding the original series is very interesting and makes the series worth watching. Overall, I was very impressed with this film and was very pleasantly surprised with the story.

My additional notes on the film:
