The Making of Our Movie
When we originally met to discuss our movie, we knew we wanted to incorporate future technology that could be developed within our fields, but also a scenario that may be relevant in the future to our fields. As a marine science major, it was difficult to come up with a believable environmental issue only because we are witnessing the destruction of our oceans and environment in our everyday lives. We decided to make a dooms day-esque movie that takes place in the year 2072. My character finds a lethal bacteria contaminating our water sources, and I and infected with the bacteria. I use advanced technology to scan the water and instantly know information such as the pH, bacterial components, salinity, and toxicity using a tricorder. The bacterial infection causes a rash, fever, and severe psychosis. Jenna, a nursing major, uses a medical tricorder to perform a body scan that records my medical history, symptoms, and other related information. Jenna the nurse and Paige the psychologist analyze my symptoms and mental state until I pass when they realize that the only way to stop the bacteria from killing the human population is to alert the people of the past to find it and stop it before it takes over.
I think the important message of our movie is that we need to recognize the effects our lifestyles have on the environment now before it is too late. Dumping oil and run off into our water systems will have detrimental effects on our food and water sources, which we depend on to survive. The future will be a dooms day situation like our movie if we don't take action now, and I don't think that is acknowledged enough.
I had so much fun making this with my group, we really got to know each other better and have a lot of laughs while making this goofy move. Who knew that a marine science major, a nursing major, and a psychology major could produce, direct, and act in their own movie?
